We are spending more and more time in front of screens, be it computers, tablets or phones. The eyes are worked hard every day. They have to process up to 30,000 movements between manuscripts, books, the keyboard and the screen. Find out how you can protect your eyes and prevent tiredness, fatigue and headaches.
Tips for screen work
- Keep a sufficient distance from the screen: the optimal distance is 50-70 cm.
- Adapt the screen resolution and font sizes to your needs.
- Make sure there is adequate lighting. Indirect daylight is particularly good as a source of light.
- Increase humidity by airing the room regularly and placing a bowl filled with water in the room.
- Avoid glare and reflections on the screen, including when working at home or on the move.
Rest for the eyes
- Give your eyes regular breaks. Take a quick look out the window or focus on a point in the distance.
- Yawn and blink from time to time. This activates tear fluids and relaxes the eyes and facial muscles.
- Stand up from time to time to stimulate the circulation and blood flow. This provides the eyes with fresh oxygen and nutrients.
Digital detox
After a long day at work, or at the weekend, the eyes need to relax. Give your eyes the chance to relax. The keyword here is digital detox. Set certain times in which your smartphone will definitely remain switched off. This may be for two hours after finishing work or for an entire day at the weekend. All that matters is that you stick to your intentions. Ideally, place your device out of sight.
Eye tests and visual aids
Take regular eye tests. You can get visual aids specially tailored to your needs from your optometrist. Avail of advice. We also offer computer glasses, which are tinted in the top half of the lens. This reduces light from the ceiling and allows the eyes to work in a more relaxed way.
